6 years ago something strange happened...

For one of the first times in my career, I found myself between ventures.

I'd spent years building (and selling) companies for other people and now it was finally my turn.

Exciting, right?

Actually no!... 🙈

You would think that with all my experience finding my next venture would be easy.

Spoiler alert - it wasn't.

At first I started where every overthinking high performer does:

I procrasti-research.

You know, when you're secretly scared to take the leap so you procrastinate + research? I found comfort in Googling, thinking, doodling, imagining.

I wrote down business ideas, even bought a domain, but then I'd stall.

I kept coming back to one thought: I wanted a business that had little risk and huge reward (you probably want this too 😅) but the more I searched for certainty the more difficult building became.

Then came the reality check:

My credit card had just been paid and I checked my bank account. It was obvious:  procrasti-researching was just draiing my funds and wasn't going to put me on a path to financial freedom.

I had to try a different approach.

Chapter 2: Going inward...

First I gave myself a deadline. 2 more days.

Then, I really forced myself to look at what I was uniquely good at, what I hated, what I loved and where money-making felt easy.

A pattern started to emerge:

For years, people had been coming to me asking for help with their businesses. Sometimes they wanted feedback on an idea. Sometimes they wanted help finding customers, sometimes it was positioning, other times it was innovation strategy. But over and over again, the same thing would happen.

They would spend twenty minutes telling me about their current plan, all their stresses and fears. I would listen, ask a few questions, and then, like magic, I could see through the noise.

That sounds like a Beautiful Mind marketing speak, but it's true.

I can quickly diagnose someone's actual issue and create a concrete plan that gets them moving.

And if that's not enough, if they need someone to do the work after the plan is identified, I am skilled at that too.
